Coffee outdoors, and Spring Fling in May

The River Dee that runs just below our village is as low as a July day and today will probably be the third in a row to top the records for warmest February day ever. There is a prospect of a ride in shorts and fingerless gloves later today. I am not sure if I should be happy about all of this or profoundly worried.

The dry weather has allowed for a number of happy Gravel rides featuring stops to brew coffee and eat cake. Every stop to take in the views had a birdsong soundtrack and you can convince yourself that the smell of spring was in the warm air. I am thinking of planting the first potatoes.

The first main event of the year here in Galloway is Spring Fling, now Scotland’s biggest open studio Art Event which this year has 94 studios open with promise of fine art and a warm welcome from 25 to 27 May.

Now, the exciting thing is that you can stay with us in Kirkcudbright and cycle to quite a number of studios on each and every one of those days. We did this last year with guests and they loved it. It always feels good to arrive by bike.

There is a bus service that tours the studios from Kirkcudbright to pick off the further out locations. If the weather is kind to us again, it will be a memorable long weekend, so message us from our website for more information.
